  1. Simply irresistible from start to finish 5 Star Review

Posted by on 24th Sep 2012

think in another life I lived in medieval times. I am so drawn to these types of books that I can’t seem to get enough of them. While in Ireland touring the castles, I fantasized about all the characters I read about real and make believe (although to me they are real) living in said castles. I could see everything about them. So once again I am drawn to the pure title of a book.

I wasn’t disappointed. Robert the Bruce a big part of medieval times always adds the true element making any story so much more believable. From the beginning of Ms. Scott’s tale with the Sexy Highland Warriors in kilts…Hot…Hot…Hot you will find that your heart is captured by the sheer romance that only they can bring to a story (Sean Connery…enough said).

Caitlin MacMillan spirited and smart, finds herself surrounded by the darkness of life that only greedy parent can bring who knows not what love is. Her father has betrothed her to a just as dark man who is three times her age. Although I would like to think that somewhere it can be a possibility it just isn’t working her and right fully so. She needs love, light, life. Not the horrors, hardships, danger that is her life and how she is treated by her father and soon to be betrothed.

In walks Conner Fraser. Highland warrior to rescue her from the “dark” life she has now. Can we say…Sexy as hell, wildly living life on the edge? He has vowed that he will fight alongside Robert the Bruce. Having already lost his parents and two brothers he doesn’t want to get married and leave a young bride behind if something were to happen to him. But once he meets Caitlin even though he tries to tell himself he doesn’t want a wife; he somehow starts to question his life in general. In other words she gets to him. Caitlin who only wants to escape her bleak existence finds herself drawn to Conner. He is after all oh so sexy….

Needless to say I fear that they are both going to find out that they need each other to find that completeness. Caitlin finds that there is life away from her father and the darkness as she sees the acceptance that the Fraser clan gives to her showing her love. She goes from one extreme to the other. She is enthralled with the fierce loyalty that the Fraser brothers have to each other as she was never privy to this in her old life.

The mountains, battles, castles, clans, smells, foods, people and life in the highlands makes me want to go back in time to live there as Ms. Scott had a way of bringing it to life. I loved the solid story that captured this romantic girl’s heart. I found this simply irresistible from start to finish with the passionate fire of this love story. Did I happen to mention the Sexy Highland Warriors in kilts?

Faced with an abhorrent betrothal, Cailin Macmillan flees her father’s castle and quickly learns that a woman traveling alone in Medieval Scotland is an easy target for ruthless English soldiers. When Highland patriot Connor Fraser comes to her aid, his steadfast dedication to king and country is challenged by his overwhelming desire to protect Cailin—even if he must marry her to do so.

Accused of murdering one of her attackers and determined to rely on her own resourcefulness, Cailin dresses as a lad, intent on seeking refuge at the camp of Robert the Bruce. Can she elude an enemy from her past—a vindictive English lord bent on her utter demise—or will she fall prey to his carnal intent and be executed for a crime she did not commit?

No halfway measures in this story; it practically jumps off the pages with action, heart-in-the-throat close calls, and love scenes that heat the blood and send it racing. Highland Legacy reaches out and grabs one’s attention and emotions and doesn’t let go until the very end.

Eighteen-year-old Cailin McMillan, feisty, intelligent, and tenacious, decides the outside world she knows little about has to be better than her father’s cruelty and his despicable plans for her. She finds the horrors and hardships she suffers along with the danger that nips at her heels often rival her father’s treatment. The tapestry of her life is dark indeed, until Connor Fraser, a Highlander warrior comes to her rescue. He brings a touch of light to her dark story—a light that grows to a glowing golden love, albeit, not without going through the fires of refinement. To her he is magnificent—one of God’s masterpieces.

Connor Fraser has pledged fealty to Robert the Bruce, King of Scotland. He knows death stalks him as he rides into battle after battle. Consequently, he wants no wife that could be his widow at any moment; nor does he want to love someone. The hurt of losing his parents and two brothers is still a raw, aching pain in his heart.

He's laird of the Fraser clan since Alasdair chose not to accept the responsibility when their oldest brother died. Big, crude, insensitive Alasdair is older than Connor, but leadership is not for him. He sees the world from a very different angle than many, but he never fails in his loyalty to Connor. Bryce, the younger brother, is far more civilized yet just as loyal and good in a fight as his brothers. These three are a force to be reckoned with.

Set in the early fourteenth century when England was determined to place Scotland under English rule, Highland Legacy bristles with hostilities, intrigues, and vicious inhumane treatment of people. During this era, English law allowed nobility to get away with murder and all kinds of horrific treatment especially to women. It curdles the blood to see the absolute lack of value placed on women during this time.

The antagonist, Lord Borden, borders on insanity in his vendetta against Cailin. He and Cailin’s father are the darkest threads in the tapestry of the heroine’s life.

But, while extreme cruelty stalked the land at one end of the continuum, at the other end, extreme love that knows no bounds is strong and true, a bright golden thread that eclipses the darkness. The breathtaking, earth-shattering love Connor and Cailin share is spellbinding. WOW!

    B. J. Scott’s Highland Legacy is exciting, graphic, sometimes humorous, and always gives a sense of urgency. While not a long story, it is chocked full of compelling characters and has all the elements one expects to find in a historical set in the Highlands during this era. Ms. Scott’s writing style engages the senses and emotions without let up. Good reading!

  3. Medieval Sexy 5 Star Review

Posted by on 18th Nov 2011

B.J. Scott’s novel is richly drawn historical romance set in medieval Scotland. Scott weaves a gorgeous tapestry of an earlier time dense with possibilities despite the many complications that come with everyday life.

I found the characters especially enticing. Connor is an alpha male whose take charge attitude is challenged by Calin, the gritty heroine. Their complicated relationship develops realistically throughout the novel as complications work against them until the protagonists learn to work together.

If you like historical romance set long ago and far away, you’ll enjoy Highland Legacy. The authors detailed descriptions of the region and its peoples provide the reader a detailed, authentic glimpse into a storied past.

    Highland Legacy
    By: B. J. Scott

Cailin Macmillan is appalled to learn her father has arranged for her to marry a Laird thrice her age. Determined to marry for love or not at all, she flees the keep, only to be accosted by brutal English soldiers intent on raping her.

Highland patriot, Connor Fraser, comes to her defense, and escorts her back to the castle. However, upon hearing that she is being sought for the murder of the soldier Connor killed, Cailin leaves her lifelong home dressed as a lad. She follows Connor and his brothers who carry a missive to Robert the Bruce, self-proclaimed King of Scotland. It is with the Bruce that Cailin hopes to seek refuge from her would-be captors.

Connor has vowed revenge for the death of his family, and has no time or inclination to marry. Nevertheless, in order to keep Cailin safe, he declares her his wife, with the intention of an annulment when they reach their destination.

With a vindictive English lord on Cailin’s trail to bring her to England for murder, Connor is torn between his steadfast dedication to king and country, his desire for Cailin, and his need to protect her from the hated English.

Highland Legacy is a book that is impossible to put down. The wealth of intrigue, horror, and historical accuracy makes for a riveting tale. The characters are well developed, the plot intricate. Ms. Scott has written a tense and spellbinding debut novel. This book is without a doubt, one of the finer stories of Medieval Scotland I’ve ever read.

Connor Fraser and Cailin Macmillian will capture your heart. Their passion, strength and honor will remain with you long after you’ve read the last page of their remarkable story. Don’t miss out on this one.

  5. A Real Page Turner 5 Star Review

Posted by on 11th Nov 2011

The debut novel of BJ Scott will captivate you the moment Cailin Macmillan, the feisty beauty with a fiery Jane Eyre-like temperament, enchants Connor Fraser, a strong-willed masculine Scottish highlander duty bound to keep her safe.

This book was an emotional roller coaster ride that I never wanted to stop. I laughed, gasped, frowned, sighed and cried. This novel is filled with romance, secrets, sensuality, captivating dialogue, and a great villain to keep every character on their toes.

Scott is a brilliant writer. The geographical descriptions and aesthetical features of this period piece made it a pleasure to read. I highly recommend this debut novel to all fans of historical romance. They won’t be disappointed. HIGHLAND LEGACY will prove why Scott's work is so incredibly irresistible---- her dynamic characters jump off the page, and her attention to historical details is so rich you feel you've stepped back in time.

I LOVED this endearing, passionate love story and I know readers will yearn for her next brilliantly set up installment. (To tell the truth, I’m personally rooting for it to feature Bryce and Fallon. That’s a love story that will pack a punch!)
